Dermovate cream is a very potent topical steroid used to treat severe skin conditions, such as eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, and lupus:
- Eczema: Frequently relapsing eczema
- Psoriasis: Thickened patches of inflamed, red skin, excluding widespread plaque psoriasis
- Lichen planus: Itchy, reddish-purple, flat-topped bumps on wrists, forearms, or lower legs
- Discoid lupus erythematosus: A disease of the skin most often affecting the face, ears, and scalp
- Dermatitis: Dermatitis that has not responded to milder steroid creams or ointments
Dermovate works by reducing redness, swelling, and itchiness of the skin. It's typically prescribed when gentler treatments fail, and it's usually given only for the most severe skin conditions and under close medical supervision.
Dermovate can cause side effects if too much is used for too long, such as thinning of the skin. You should avoid applying Dermovate to broken or damaged skin, within skin folds, or on the face for more than 5 days.
